“BITTER, AMORE”

In “Bitter, Amore”, which follows on from the events of “Death Takes a Holiday”, it’s August 1956, and mystery novel reviewer Florrie Granat has stayed on in Rome. When an old friend from her student days introduces her to a group of archeologists, she takes up residence in the Swedish Institute, where she is reunited with her Watson from the bus journey, professor Georg Brandt.

After a trip to an Etruscan excavation site, the hot winds of the Scirocco begin to blow, tensions and passions between the odd companions begin to boil over – to the point of murder. Once again Florrie has to use her powers of deduction to untangle the mystery.

I enjoyed illustrating “Death Takes a Holiday” so much I was delighted to be able to take up the 1950s style again for the followup. This time Florrie gets a more prominent place on the cover. The illustration is painted in acrylic on board.
